Notes on Transistor Biasing

I need to wrap my head around this.

Just some notes I found on a few forums.

you’ll want at least a trimpot replacing the transistor collector resistor. Once you get the needed voltage for the collector leg on the transistor then take the ratting of the trimpot and replace it with a metal film or just leave the trimpot on the PCB.

In most pedals bias just means use the correct collector resistor so that the collector of a transistor is at 4.5v or half of your V+ power supply. Voltage going into the base and other factors all play a role. you can bias on a breadboard using the hit or miss method. or you can just use a trimmer where the collector resistor should be.

Electra mini

I finished my Electra inspired distortion/Fuzz. I have a bit of dropped octave on mine that makes it sound fatter. I just love it on my P90’s.

Danelectro Fab Tone Re-house

I was never a fan of the original box and always wanted to build my own box for it. I did a few mods on it to just smooth out the sound but it still have the awesome “end of the world” distortion sound.

My wife got me these awesome patches for “electronic achievements”. They are made really well and will find a home on my workbench soon.
